3 questions for Rereading America

1. Over time can cultural myths change? Can they change with the change of society? Or is that something they do?

2. How do you learn to be a critical thinker? Is it something you can be taught to do?

3. How does someone know if their culture is blinding them?

3 words to define in Rereading America

1. Enmeshed- To entangle, involve, or catch in or as if in a mesh.

2. Acreage- Extent or area in acres; acres collectively.

3. Perverse- Willfully determined or disposed to go counter to what is expected or desired.

Rereading America’s summary

It talks about what critical thinking is, and what it means. How we might think something should be one way but actually different in reality. It then talks about our culture and how it’s sometimes blinding to us.  

My three questions on Rose’s essay

1. Of what importance is it to have a teacher who really cares, and is engaged with the students?

2. Is it okay to just want to be an average student?

3. Can you still be a success in life without taking hgih end classes in high school?

My three words defined from Rose’s essay

1. Miscellany- A miscellaneous collection or group of various or somewhat unrelated items.

2. Somnambulant-  To walk during sleep; sleepwalk.

3. Corrugated-  To draw or bend into folds or alternate furrows and ridges.

Summary of Rose’s Essay

His essay was about an experience he went through getting through high school. He has very good memories of his friends and how they just got by in school, until he met a teacher that changed his mind thought. This teacher gave him confidence and gave him the chance to go to college. He had him dreaming of things that he ever thought he could do before.

My three honest questions about the college links

1. What if you don’t have any money for college? Is it smart to work a year after college, or does that make you less likely to go back to school?

2. How are some good ways to find schools that have good programs for what you are thinking about majoring in?

3. Is there a good answer to if you want to stay close to home during college? But are interested in a certain major, and the colleges around your home don’t offer it?

My three words…. from the college links!

1. Proprietary-  Belonging or controlled as property.

2. Mensa-  Also called altar slab, the flat stone forming the top of the altar in a Roman Catholic church.

3. Pinnacle- The highest or culminating point, as of success, power, fame.

 

Summary on College Reading

The college links were helping soon to be college find a college that is right for them. It gave TONS of information about all the different types of colleges there are. They gave you guidelines to follow help help find that one college that will help you succeed.
